Our Volunteer Program is a great way to contribute to heritage preservation, public engagement and gain valuable skills and experience to succeed within the museum industry. So whether you are a student looking to enrich your resume, or a retiree looking to try something different, we would love to welcome you to our dedicated and diverse team! We have a variety of volunteer roles you can be part of as well as several exciting volunteer projects:
- Volunteer Tour Guide: If you are passionate about history and love to get others enthused too, you could be perfect to help the MARC deliver tours covering a variety of subjects across age ranges, both in the Museum and at the historic 1816 Wright Tavern.
- Education Programming Volunteer: Any aspiring or retired educators – MARC needs you! Help us write and deliver talks and workshops to schools and come up with exciting new ways to engage children with the Museum. For those willing, there is also the opportunity to assist in vital educational outreach, networking with other institutions.
- Volunteer Reception Greeter: Love talking to people and building those connections? Well our volunteer reception greeter role could be perfect for you. You can be the public face of the Museum, welcoming our visitors as they arrive and helping them get the most out of their visit so they will come back again and again.
- Volunteer Event Assistant: Why not help the MARC at events from Bluegrass to Christmas? An opportunity to network and experience a variety of cultural events. - Collections & Archives Volunteer: Prefer working back-of-house? Well the MARC has an extensive collection and archives spanning centuries in the vaults of the old courthouse. You could work first-hand in the accessioning, essential preservation and research of the collections. There are several projects, the Comer Photo Archival Project and Legacy Archival Project, which you can be a part of. No prior experience required.
- Historical Research Volunteer:Within the Collections Team we are looking for individuals who like getting to the bottom of a good mystery! We receive a variety of historical enquiries from the public and from within our own archives. The only requirement - methodical individuals familiar with using computer search engines or local libraries or both. There is also the option for those who wish, to work remotely.
- Historical Footage Digitization Volunteer:Within the Collections Team we are looking for several individuals to help digitize our wealth of audio histories from interviews to 100+ year old footage on reels, cassettes, CD’s, DVD’s and other formats, much of which has never been seen before. MARC will provide the software and means to preserve these histories and share them with our audience. We just need an eager individuals, ideally with prior digitization experience.
- Social Media & Branding Volunteer Internship:We are looking for person(s) with prior experience with social media to implement and improve our digital engagement strategy helping create content for our social media accounts. In addition, this position will work with the Executive Director to assist in creating a new branding framework. Work can be carried out largely remotely if needed.
- Graphic Design Volunteer: We are looking for someone with a creative eye to help us design marketing materials for events, workshops and other programming. Ideally we're looking for someone familiar with Adobe Creative Suite who can build on our existing marketing foundation and help MARC stand out even more. An ideal position for students looking for experience or anyone wanting to share their creative flair.
